So today was my 8th electrolysis appointment and I am making wonderful progress, though the pictures may not say so.
My electrologist said that she is working on a pretty high intensity and is pretty impressed with the fact that I do not complain or flinch when she is zapping my hairs.
I was pretty happy when she said she is working at a high intensity. That’s how know for a fact my hair follicles are really going to be killed for good!
Man oh man, how I wish I did this SO much sooner in life!
The pain is high but it’s oddly quite tolerable for me.
Today I took a few aspirin with some food and nearly fell asleep on my electrologist! Some hairs were a little more painful than others but I got through it with no issues!
I told her how I purchased EMLA cream on Amazon and she said that would definitely help with the pain.
I’ve gotten this far without it I figured I can do nothing more but make the experience a little less painful.
She removed a lot of regrowth today. The regrowth that I am seeing is either growing very, very slowly or it is so light and fine in texture I barely see it.
My skin is not scarred up or anything like that. The small scars I do get from electrolysis clear up in a couple days.
She tells me to religiously use witch hazel as it is an anti-inflammatory component after my treatments. It is also an anti-bacterial agent. It does not have an alcohol-ish smell to it either though it’s similar in appearance to rubbing alcohol.
After my 8th treatment of electrolysis here are some things that I use to make my experience not so scary:
- Aspirin: It helps me relax when I popped 3-4 aspirin 30 minutes prior to the treatment. Seriously, it helps me bare some of the more difficult hairs on some of the more sensitive areas.
- Numbing cream: I have no used it yet, but my electrologist encouraged me to get some EMLA or LMX cream (apparently they are the same, but EMLA requires a prescription I believe) to greatly reduce the discomfort.
- Think about something else: I usually lay there and daydream about something pleasant. Today, strangely, I thought about all the damn bills I had to pay and that definitely transferred the pain from my face to my brain!
- Experience: I’ve had electrolysis done in the past, as well as laser hair removal, waxing, threading, epilation, and plenty of ingrowns so I very accustomed to pain.
- Talking: I found that conversing with my electrologist during the period of treatment helps a lot as well. It also helps establish a personal relationship with the electrologist and inform her when the pain is unbearable. She will likely work with you to make the experience better.
So there you have it: my 8th electroloysis treatment! I cannot wait for my next 8 sessions! I sure to FINALLY be hair free by then!!
